Well after a few months of computer problums, limited time (work) and all other kinds of headaches, i'm back online and back on FTE. Not sure how much has changed but on first look i thought Dennis had done a take over of FTE. well i figured it out so congrats administratior assistant . but with that said, hope there isnt anything else i'm missing and good to be back and see most of u all on the fourm again. (I got a lot of reading to do!)
Great to have you back!
I was wondering where you had gone to.
I was thinking about getting an old tractor and thought about your posts on antique tractors.
I thought I saw a post of yours the other night thinking you were just spying on us around here.
We've been talking about you a little,In regards to recipe's and things.
There are 100's of very interesting posts that have graced the site here in the last couple of months with new server, new operating system that ken has pulled most of his hair out, over.
Many new member's and Many more waiting with anticipation for Ken's announcement to file their personal info.
Ken ,Peggy, & rest of the staff are working their little buns off with all the action.
horsepuller, hey that sounds like a good idea, theres nothin better than spending a couple of months with an old tractor restoring it. its like bringing back a little bit of american history. Thats another thing i've been messing with, getting my, and my buddys tractors cleaned up and running good for all the fairs and shows this year. what kind of tractors were you looking at?
dennis, yeah i figured i'm pretty far behind, i've been lookin through posts one by one. as soon as the search link is back up i'll try to speed my self up a little :7 but i got all night, so what the heck.
Cowboy, I found an Allis-Chalmers CA sitting in the weeds, but remembered your post about stuck engines, so decided to look around a bit before jumping in over my head.
I joined a local flywheeler's association and found some for sale in good running condition. One guy has two A-C WD's for sale. A wide front and a single front with cultivator attachment. I'll be looking at those sometime soon.
If I get one of the WD's, I still might persue the CA just because it looked in such good shape and might be a good project. (Like I need more projects, LOL!)
Hey sounds like you are on the right path as long as its Orange you cant go wrong. with all the tractors i've messed with i've had the least problums with Allis's. the small Allis's ex. B,C,CA. The CA is a great model. My first tractor (and still my favorit) is my CA. its actually the only one i fully own. The WD's are also a good tractor, the motors are dont seem to run as smooth to me as the smaller AC's but if you want the Horsepower or speed for whatever then its your next best choice. I would hold out for a WD-45, they have a little extra horsepower than the WD's and can ushually be found for about the same price. if there arent any decals, look for the gearshift to be curved on the 45's.
One thing I like about the AC's is the fact of how simalair the motors, and drivetrains and what not are simalair (sp?) to the cars and trucks today. John Deere had their own little thing going, which was actually more simple but compaired to todays motorized vehicals, they are so differant that is can be confusing if you have never really got into one. Ford's were really ahead of their time, and had some really inovative designs like on the 901's gearshift, and some of their smaller tractors having powersteering, which once again just adds to how complicated it is. The Farmalls are my second favorit tractors to work with, i've only messed with M's 450's and H's which i like for the same reason i like the Allis-Chalmers how they have the same consepts of modern vehicals. but anything can be done, just some might take longer than others. and no matter what you get into you will have a lot of fun tinkering with it and getting it to look just right. By all means though i would go with the AC if you can get it. i'll attach a picture of my CA to this post. Make sure you let me know what you end up doing and how it goes. and feel free to ask me anything else you want to. its great to see people giving these old tractors a second chance
Hey Cowboy_351! what's up? lots has changed since you last left. Dennis is a assistant to ken, i have my own fourm now yay for me and i finally figured out how to get my own avitar! lol!
Cowboy, that's one great look'in little Allis! Is that a hydraulic fluid filter I see inside the fender?
I'll let you know when I get my tractor. In the meantime I'll post a photo of that CA as soon as I can. Maybe you'll be able to tell me a little about it from the condition it's in. I really like the way it looks, but I think first I'd like to have a working tractor before I start dragging home rusty junk.
Nah the pictures kinda blury, thats actually my lights i didnt like how they look stock, so i put them on the fenders, also like being able to see the engine at night, i'll post a picture of this tractor before i started as soon as i find it and scan it. it was in fairly good shape from the get go.
