Question normal driving with hubs locked

Just found this forum and there's lots of great stuff here ! I'm new to the 4x4 scene and have a question about my manual locking hubs. Can I drive around town with the hubs locked in and still be in 2 wheel drive ? Does this harm anything?

shouldn't harm anything. just causes a little more drag which waste a little more gas. i do that in the winter time when there is snow on the roads in town but interstate is clear, so that i can shift into 4x4 with out getting out to lock the hubs.

actually...believe it or not, it helps to keep them locked every now and then. it keeps them good and greased and the drop in fuel mileage is so miniscule that i wouldn't worry about it. If you don't run your 4x4 much it is recommended by the manufacturer (FORD) to lock your hubs once a month for 10 miles or so.
