Need a fixer
I have a 1994 f350 7.3 idi turbo diesel dually that is my farm truck. I have had it for 6 years and up until last fall it was running fine. Regular maintenance and upkeep. I am NOT a mechanic, I just like having an older truck without a lot of bells and whistles. Very limited farm use and a few runs to the farm store and lumber yard. It started to die on me after running for a while. No noises or weird vibrations, just dies and leaves me stranded. I have taken it to 3 different places and ALL of them said that they are not real familiar with the 7.3 idi turbo. (Maul's Jacksonville, Douglas Automotive Pittsfield, Anderson Truck repair Detroit)
I live in west central in lllinois in Pittsfield. Does anyone have a reliable shop that can address this engine? I love my old truck and just want it to run. I have the ability to load it and deliver it, I just need a place to go! Please help!
At the top of the window you'll see the title line.
Change the title of the the post to something like: "Recommend Powerstroke Repair Shop East/Central Illinois"
Or where ever is closest. You'll generate more responses, I'd guess going by its more common ID.
I'd also call places and ask "will you work on a 94 Powerstroke" rather than showing up & leaving it.
Just a couple suggestion, good luck.

The good news is, you don't have to be a mechanic to fix the issue yourself. The problem is probably something as simple as a plugged fuel filter or a failing lift pump. Does the truck die out when you let of the fuel real quick or is it just random, even while idling? When you go to re-start it, does it start right back up or require lots of cranking and or even many hours of cool time down before it will restart?
To save some time, here's a few tips;
The next time it dies (if it just randomly stalls out, even while idling) and doesn't start right back up (until an hour or more latter) carry some room temp water with you. Pop the hood, and pour the water over the high pressure injection pump (the big pump right up in the center of the engine, with the spiderweb of hard fuel lines coming out the back of it). If the truck starts right back up after doing this, you need to replace the injection pump with a reman pump.
If the truck stalls out on deceleration, but starts right back up, remove the fuel filter, pour out the fuel, fill it with mercon trans fluid, pour the rest of the quart in the fuel tank, start the truck, let it run for 30-45 seconds, shut it down. Let it set overnight and the next day, the problem will be gone.
