The FA are Dana 50's, exclusive to Ford, they are kind of a cross breed between a 44 and a 60. The axle housings are the same size as the 60, but they neck down at the spindle and use a "unitized hub" which means good luck buying bearings/seals from anyone but Ford (the're all in one $$$ unit). The center housing is similar but contains Dana 44 RC gears. The RA on the SRW trucks is a Ford unit some say is comperable to a Dana 70, but with less after-market availabilty. The DRW uses a Dana 80. this is a super HD axle with plenty of after-market parts, Dodge uses'em too.
All Ford SRW trucks use a Sterling brand axle with 10.5" R&P. The 5.4L has a 2-pinion diff while the V10 & PSD have a 3-pinion setup. Dually trucks use a Dana 80. Front axles are either a Dana 50 or Dana 60 depending on model year.
GM SRW trucks use American Axle and Manufacturing axles with 10.5" R&P for 6.0L trucks. The 8.0L and diesel powered SRW and Dually trucks use an AAM with 11.5" R&P. Front axle is a wannabe.
Dodge SRW trucks also uses AAM axles with the 10.5" in their smallest gas engine trucks and 11.5" in their V10 & CTD. Dually trucks use the Dana 80. Front axles are also made by AAM.
As a side note, if you are looking for rating numbers, the weight rating for rear axles on all of the trucks seems to be limited by OEM tires.
>2003 F350 all Dana 60. Dana 60 or 80 in the rear.
Wrong. Read NoMo's post above which is correct. It is doubtfull Ford would ever put a 60 in the rear of any truck again when they have stronger Sterling's. 80's in the DRW as stated above.
