Question Pusher or Puller

I would like to replace my stock fan with an electric one and i was wondering if i needed a pusher or puller fan? Does a electric fan provide better cooling the the stock fan? I would like feed back from anyone who has installed one please. or anyone with an opinion

Puller fan's are said to be more efficient.

I thought they were the same fan it just matters which way you install it. Do you have enough room to put a fan in front of your radiator? So long as the electric fan you put in flows as well as the one you are removing it will probably do a better job at keeping your truck cool. When we switched my dad's Pontiac 400 from flex to electric it dropped ten degrees in the first run.

I put a puller on my 86, and kept the factory fan too. I do a lot of towing in the summer in the southwestern deserts and need all the cooling I can get. Not all pullers will fit between the fan clutch and the radiator though. You need to get the specs from the box before you start. I rigged mine with a thermostat (not too accurate) and also it comes on when the AC is in use.

I have been told that if you get electic fans, make sure you have a good shroud that will direct the air properly. A fan like the one shown would work really well but I think they are quite expensive. Last time I looked they did not make a system specifically for the Pre-1997 Fords but it doesn't mean you couldn't make it work. Also, four wheeler did an electric fan conversion on a 350 blazer and got about 15 horsepower back. Let us know how it works.

Thanks for the input guys. It looks like the electric fan is going to be my christmas present to myself I just wanted to get enough info on it before i go out and get one. The main reason i thought i would get one is the extra power. and to keep it cooler.
Do you think i might have to upgrade my alternator?

Run both! I have the stock clutch fan and then I also run a pusher fan in the front on a switch so i can add the extra cooler power on the trail.

pushers have worked for me on my big block pontiacs. I use a dual set-up and just eliminate the stock fan. I live in Georgia, and sitting in traffic and the car staying cool says a lot for the pusher fan. You can also leave the stock fan on if you use a pusher as well. In the summer you can never overcool one with a fan.

It all depends on the application......some vehicles don;t have the clearance for pullers.....so pushers are the ticket....

I have dual pullers on mine.....and they have their own plastic shroud...
pulling air through the alum radiator.

they work great and a noticed a tad more power off idle. fan clutches are almost as good as elec fans.
