90 Ranger engine replacement

Hello.

I have a 90 Ranger 2WD 5 speed, 2.3L. I (desparately) need to replace or rebuild the engine. I have come across a 97 engine sitting on an engine stand that does not appear to ever have been run. I believe it to be a factory engine, just never installed. I would appreciate any advice on using this engine - will the motor mounts fit, will it bolt up to the bell housing, etc. I believe they made a change to the block in 98.

I'm not sure when they switched to the 2.5 but I'm sure someone can help.

You can get away with an engine as late as the 94 model year.

The blocks were tweaked a bit in 95 and some stuff got moved around when 95 came around.
