Question Help needed identifying 93 Explorer console part

Hi,
I'm new to the forum,
I recently picked up a 93 Explorer sport
I used the tips here to fix my mazda transmission plugs
and repaired my sloppy shifter.

On my center console there is something missing on the rear top of it. behind the compartment door if you are looking down at it you see 2 square holes next to each other with the part number of the console between them.... .

Can anyone help me out ?

Thanks in advance
"D"

Here's the picture of the center console.

Do you mean holes at the side of the console, just under the armrest pillar? If yes, it's number 2 part. These are the caps hiding bolts mounting armrest pillar.

I believe the part number should be F37Z-10047A62-A. Not sure if it has different part number for colours other than tan.

With best regards,
Yuri

D,

Sounds like you might be missing the armrest assembly, part # 13 in Yuri's diagram. These were prone to break on the first gen Explorers since they were cantilevered from the rear of the console. The PO may have removed the armrest instead of repairing it. If it's missing you may want to try a junk yard before spending significant bucks at the dealer.

Good luck.

I do completely agree about the armrest. I never seen a First-Gen Explorer without broken/repaired/changed/missed armrest pillar (the part that support the armrest, it has no number on the picture).

By the way, Ford even issued a recall on this issue. And now the pillar has a part number and is available at the dealer store. At least this is true for Russia. I asked for this part here in Moscow, it costs 65 Euro (about 73 USD). Also, the new part is no longer made from fragile plastic, they manufacture it from steel, if I understood the storeman correctly.

With best regards,
Yuri

It is #13 the armrest assembly..

I didn't know that there was an armrest as well as a cover....
I'll have to hit the junk yards and see what I can find..
or I may just try and find something that just covers up the blank spot and do without it..

Thanks again.

D,

I'd try to get one if possible. It makes long distance driving more comfortable. Likely you will need to replace the pillar as Yuri suggested on one you find in the junk yard but still worth it.
