Brake dust

Anyone notice an extreme amount of brake dust on their F150?...Only about 600 miles...polished wheels......within 5 miles after washing..the front wheels look almost black. I'm hoping the pads are just getting seated....but it sure seems like alot of dust...

My Wife's 03 Expedition (same front end) had the same problem, pick yourself up a pair of break dust shields. They don't stop the dust completely but at least prolong between washes.

My F150 has the same problems, 600 miles and I have had to clean them 3 times. Every Ford I have owned has had the same problem.

Although dust shields can help keep dust off the rims, I have heard that using dust shields will cut down the amount of air getting to the brakes. If not enough air gets to the brakes, they heat up faster, stay hot longer, and can warp the rotors. It doesn't take long to clean the rims, plus, you can get stuff to put on the wheels to either help keep cut down on the amount of brake dust that gets on them or with the right stuff, you just hose them off and they are clean again. I would rather clean them, than to have to replace my brakes early. Just my .02
