Oil change

Wondering if this is normal. Can’t usually see a filter on my lower cars so I’m unsure if the gasket is normally seen.

Is the gasket being seen normal? Can’t normally see the filter on my cars. And this is the first change I’ve done on my truck.

It almost looks like the old gasket stayed on there based on the spacing between the filter and the housing.

Gas engine with that sandwich oil cooler on the side of the block.
I'd say it is probably normal, but you could pull it back off to check and make sure the old gasket didn't stay on when you put the new filter on.

If it doesn't spew oil everywhere when you start it up, it's good.

If it does, the old gasket stuck to the housing and you'll have to remove it.

It's probably good, it you have a double gasket it will blow out oil really quickly. And I don't mean drip, it will be like you pulled the drain plug.
