'68-71 heads have screw-in studs. .522 is about maximum lift on stock rail rockers before spring bind.

I am running a set of D3VE's with 7/16's studs and a .580 lift. I had to have the stud pads and spring pockets machined though. I did some serious machine work to mine to improve the performance on them. I also needed the larger chamber volume to keep it on pump gas. 68-71 heads have a 72-76cc chambers while the later heads have 92cc's.

hotrod ranger,

The D1VE's are three times the heads that the D3's are. Use them, and a good set of springs, and you can run any cam you want. Get a 3 angle valve job, a little port work, especially on the exhaust side, and the sky's the limit as far as the power's concerned. Also, when having them worked over, have the 2.19 intake valves installed, and use the 2.25's only for use above 7500 rpm.

georgedavila I can't complain about it. So far I have been able to max out the speedometer moving maybe 25 feet. Not bad for my old truck. Of course having a 4000 lbs truck helps that alot. Driving on the freeways out here in SoCal is a little different. Every time I am next to a Mercedies or BMW they give me a dirty look. But that is their problem not mine. I have to put my baby up for a year though, I have to ship out to Iraq next month. So in the mean time I am starting to buy all of the things I will need to make sure she's taken care of while I am gone.

That's because they're eating big lease payments every month.

Good luck and be safe on your deployment.
