- Relieve Fuel Pressure: Start the engine and pull the fuel pump fuse to relieve fuel pressure. Alternatively, use a fuel pressure gauge to bleed the fuel system.
- Remove Fuel Lines: Disconnect the fuel lines from the filter by using a fuel line disconnect tool or a flat-head screwdriver to pry off the clips.
- Remove Old Filter: Carefully remove the old fuel filter from the bracket, ensuring to note the orientation for reinstallation.
- Install New Filter: Place the new fuel filter in the bracket, aligning the flow arrow with the engine.
- Reconnect Fuel Lines: Secure the fuel lines back onto the filter ports.
- Reconnect Battery: Reconnect the negative battery cable.
- Check for Leaks: Inspect all connections for leaks and start the engine to check for any leaks around the filter.
- Bleed the Fuel System: Cycle the ignition key several times or crank the engine until it starts to bleed the fuel system.
- Dispose of Old Filter: Properly dispose of the old filter to prevent fuel leaks.
Always consult your owner's manual or a reputable repair manual for detailed instructions and diagrams tailored to your exact truck. If you're not comfortable performing this repair yourself, it's best to take your truck to a qualified mechanic.
