Calibrate speedometer

2020 XLT. Installed slightly taller tires. Speedometer is 2 mph off at 60 mph per gps. It was right on with previous tires. 2 different dealers say they can’t correct it and the last one suggested an after market programmer to true it up. Does this sound right?

Yes, newer versions of IDS and FDRS do not support changing tire sizes. You need forscan or another programmer to recalibrate

Very easy correction with Forscan. All you need is a laptop, dongle ($50) and free Forscan program. Other great advantages of having Forscan. The Dealer saying can not be done, is the go away attitude.

YouTube is a good start if you want to use Forscan, but you should read a little on what you need to do to stay out of trouble. Some forum users created a great resource:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ces-index.html

Buy the Forscan recommend adapter (OBD Link or Vlinker) because you are making changes, not just reading data. You don't need any irreversible problems a bad adapter can cause.

The dealer saying cannot be done is because of Ford software. If the dealer makes changes using outside software, the dealer has a liability that is not backed by Ford. If Ford software screws up, the dealer has a recourse through Ford, be it technical assistance, software development, etc.

You can use FORscan, as stated above. When I did my truck, 10 years ago, I used a Hypertech calibrator. My tires are spec's at 34.4", but that's unloaded. The reason I didn't use FORscan at the time was that I had a Mac laptop.

To get my speedometer to read correctly, I had to enter 33.25" into the calibrator to get it perfect. For what it's worth, nearly every F150 comes from the factory with the speedometer read about 3% fast. Check with a speedometer app that you can download on your phone, there are many in the app store.

Well, my 2 laptops are Windows 7 and 10. Neither are suitable for 11. I pretty much do everything on my phone now. Messing around in that program is not something I am comfortable with. That’s the reason I went to 2 dealers to have an experienced person do it. I still have some extended warranty left and I wouldn’t want to give them an excuse to decline a repair. I may have to just live with it. Thanks for taking the time to reply all.

Here's what I used. It was fairly easy to do. This is the best price I found.

Sounds about right. When my speedometer says I'm doing 35, the radar trailers show me doing 34. So I usually add at least 1 MPH to do the speed limit. Double that at freeway speeds.
