Trouble Starting

I have a 2000 F-150 w/ V6 (4.6). Lately when ever I go to start it the anti-theft light blinks rapidly and the odometer has a flat line across it. The engine turns over and over and never fires. Whenever the light finally decides to slow down, the odometer goes back to normal and the truck will crank. Will someone be willing to point me in the right direction?

Could this be because of the key or weak battery?
