My 1972 F600 is in need of a new carburator. The one on it is original to the truck and it's 330 cubic inch engine. Anyone know of a good replacement for the one that is on it now? It is the one with the governor on it.
Which governor? Some 330s got the Ford (Autolite) 2100 with the velocity governor, that looks like a thick carb base plate, and is self-contained.
Other 330s got the Holley 2300 with the vacuum governor. Vacuum line to the distributor base and a flyweight mechanism inside the distributor to modulate a vacuum leak.

Mine is the Autolite carb. The governor is located on the left side if you are standing in front of the truck and is a cylindrical shape about 6 inches long .
I think you can slap on pretty much anything to that governor. Anything that can be tuned, I mean. There seem to be a lot of choices, including TBI fuel injection, though that involves more wiring than many people want to get into for an old truck.
If it’s a Autolite just get a kit to rebuild it, unless the throttle shaft is worn out or it’s became corroded inside from water those carbs will run forever
If it’s the governed Holley 2 bbl you need to try rebuilding it, new or reman carbs have not been available for some time

The truck sat for several years and when I got it running it ran pretty good but now it hesitates when you step on the gas and when shifting. It stalls then will pick up and go. Even when hot but especially when cold. Using the choke helps some but would like it to run correctly if possible.
Likely the accelerator pump circuit is stopped up, since it’s been setting for a while the pump diaphragm could be dried out and stiff, or the check valve under the squirter is sticking
A non working distributor vacuum advance can cause a stumble as well

Gosh didn't even think about checking the timing. I replaced the accelerator pump but that is all. Think I will order a kit. Going to take the top off and see if there is trash inside for starters.
