I bought an Undercover bed cover for my 26 F250. The seller stated that it was a dealer installed option on his 2025 F250 that he bought new from a Ford dealership.
The cover did not fit my F250 the way I thought it should have. To clear the tailgate I had to shift it back about 1-2". To clear the bed side I had to shim the cover up about an inch.
I'm wondering if the cover was for a 17-22 Superduty.
I sold the short bed F250 and bought a long bed F350 so I want to sell the cover. I contacted Undercover and gave them the serial number of the cover. They were not able to tell me what he cover fit.
What were the bed differences between the generations and would that make a difference on a bed cover?
I ran into this same situation with purchasing a camper shell for my 25. There were lots of 17-22 used shells available but no 23-26 shells available when I was looking. I even called Leer Campers and they couldn't tell me what the differences were between the two groups of trucks. I ended up ordering a new shell and wouldn't you know it about 4 weeks after ordering the new shell I found a nice used one but not my color matched for my truck for sale. Since I had to put a deposit down on the new one that's what I ended up with. I still haven't been able to find what the difference is yet.
I think internally it’s the same but the 23+ bed rail is about 3” longer at the rear to fit the hand hold slot. If you look at the very top of the bedside above the tail light the 23+ is flared and the top corner edges of the tailgate are flared. They also changed the driver side hinge for the tailgate from the slotted style to a tube style. Also at some point they switched the camera style to a digital but not sure what year (maybe 22 when they added sync4)
I had a smart cap for a 17-22 on my 23 and it was shorter but still sealed ok. I liked it better as it left the handle area open so I could still use it where the longer 23+ covers it but it was also an 1” lower from the cab and the 3rd brake light didn’t exactly match up.
I bought an aftermarket tailgate from bringit with integrated ramps for a 17-22 (they don’t offer a 23+) and had to change the hinge bracket to make it fit but left me with the mismatch at the top due to the flared bedside.
