Hello, I am still working on my 91' resto-mod. Powertrain is all in and in the process of working on the jungle of vacuum lines, wiring, plug ins etc. I wanted to simply test a quick crank with the key. Here is what is new: Starter motor, solenoid, ignition switch, key ignition lock and NSS. Wiring is original.
I used a wire tracer and noticed that from the S terminal the signal lead to the Grey bus connector break out. Hooked that to grey... then I noticed on the injector / top of engine harness the grey female in the back seems to hook up to the NSS connector. I felt foolish but originally I had NSS hooked up to the wrong one and it was back feeding and blowing a 15A in slot 5 I believe ( turn signals ). But then it seemed obvious as the female and male for NSS have a small connector tethering the loom. I also found an old photo of the stock engine and clearly the NSS bundle stays on drivers side of AOD.
So now when I do a key test, I can't show any voltage at S terminal post / wire. I thought I had better references over the build or would find good diagrams but the only one I found mentions that rear connector is to "main harness". The only other 4 pin break out in the back I believe was for knock sensor (which this block doesn't have now so I have to figure that out also).
I have adjusted ignition switch to where it feels really good and was able to match the original location. No binding or anything, key springs back nicely too. At ONE point I did have solenoid clicking but I don't know if I had the NSS jumpered or hot wired somehow with a paper clip.
The fuse box was a little bit of a mess or at least someone had things spaded in or there are some extra fuses ... they MAY have been hooked up but I'm not sure where or if it got disconnected, still have to trace those. I believe that bare red wire came undone from one of those little piggy back fuse blocks. MAYBE that's the obvious point but I know I had solenoid making noise without these hooked in. It's embarrassing , but I've rebuilt everything in this truck over the last 8 years (while fighting in the rust belt) so its frustrating to come this far and not be able to do a simple test. I have a lot to learn with wiring of this truck, but I at least am as far as using a wire tracer lol. Any help is greatly appreciated. The final photo I also had a strong trace signal there but not sure where that went yet. I have to peel back and look at colors too. / Btw it did pass a screwdriver test, so i know the starter is good... its also super duper grounded .
where I believe NSS hooks up. bus connector where I traced S wire breakout mess of a fuse box I believe these are audio
