I have a ticking noise in a 400 of a 79 f250 4x4 crew cab.It
sounds like the rockers arms to me i want to retourque them before changeing anything to see if that works. What are the torque settings they are stock.
I just bought this truck. The owner had it for 10 years and did not make any modification to the engine at all.I found some paper work in the glovebox and the previous owner before the man i bought it from had Ford Motor company install a new block. The truck had 86,000 when they installed in now the truack has 26,000 so the heads have 126,000 miles i suppose.
Rambo, an engine back fire will cause the bent push rods. I had one bend and fall out out after a couple of backfires in my 400 when I had put the stock 2bbl carb on before I did emisions.
isaz, so the engine only has 40K miles. you can first take the vavle covers off and check between the rocker tip and top of the valve step with a feeler gauge while the engine is at idle. use about a .005" leaf. it could be a bad lifter or pushrod
