Post Do you guys deal with gear sliding forward and hitting the front of the bed?

Hey truck owners,

After using my truck for a while, I started noticing that the front of the bed (right behind the cab) seems to get hit the hardest—especially when loading tools, lumber, or anything that slides forward.

It got me thinking about bed protection setups. Most of us run a standard bed mat or liner, but I’m not sure it really addresses that high-impact front area.

So I wanted to get some real opinions from you guys.

If you were choosing a bed protection setup, which would you prefer?

1️⃣ Full coverage (all sides protected)
  • Bed floor + side walls + front panel
  • Maximum protection, but might be overkill for some
2️⃣ Bed mat + tailgate protection only
  • Covers the main floor and tailgate
  • Simple and probably what most people already run
3️⃣ Bed mat + tailgate + EXTRA front protection
  • Focus on the areas that actually take the most abuse
  • Adds reinforcement where cargo usually slams forward
Curious what your setup is and whether you’ve had issues with the front of your bed getting beat up over time.

There are some slot-like things near the rear of the bed that would allow you to drop in a 2x10 or 2x12 to make a divider to keep it all in that last 2' or so of the bed.

Separate from that, we have the factory spray-in bed treatment plus a bed rug that covers the floor and tailgate, but not the sides.

I use a t mat system. Modular system with different attachments to block stuff from sliding around.

I have a heavy rubber mat in the bed that helps a lot. Then, if something is heavy, I'll strap it so it won't slide, or bounce.

I’ve had several trucks over the years and I like Linex brand spray in bed liners the best for paint protection. They stand behind their products and will repair any defects cuts or chips that might happen but in my experience it’s only been needed twice. In addition I run a bed mat to keep loose items from sliding up. I also have a locking load bar to lock loads in place.

I do one of two things depending.

1) put things in the most logical place. Up against the front of the bed.
2) #1 with tie downs.

That’s basically full protection—you’re covered from all angles.
