timming a 351w conversion.

I jsut put a rebuilt 351 in my 89F250 truck in place of the 302. I went to set the intial timming to 10btdc. On the engine lable it says to disconect the spout connector when setting the timming. Where is this connector? Just by sound the engine runs better at 20 or 25 than 10. At ten the cam sounds like it is realy lumpy and the starter kicks back sometimes when starting. At the more advanced timming these problems go away. This is exactly opposite of any other engine I have ever timmed. Any help with that connector would be great or any insights for that matter too. Thanks in advance

Its a small grey jumper either at the base of the distibutor, or on the drivers side of the engine compartment up by the fire wall and the fender. Best of luck!!

the spout is a plug that is near your tfi module that connects to the distributor. basically it just dangles there , there is a plug that you can pull out of it . that is when you set the timing with that removed other wise the computer tries to compensate for the changes you are trying to make. thats why it seems like 20 to 25* seems to run better.

good luck

Thanks for the info guys. I was wondering what that extra plug was for. I just figured it was one of the spare connectors that someone decided to plug instead of leave open.
