Ford undercover pivoting storage boxes

Just wondering if anyone has the undercover pivoting storage boxes and what do you think of them. Are they weatherproof? Any insight is appreciated.

Don’t load them very heavy. I was also unimpressed with the latch quality. But that was several years ago. Maybe they’ve improved.
For me it was a product that I tried, removed, sold and wouldn’t spend time or money on again. But that’s just my experience and opinion. Others are good with them.

I put a pair of Ebay boxes in my ';17, and moved them to my '25...same boxes that Ford sells but cost for a pair is what Ford wants for one. They reside under a tonneau cover, so they're never locked closed. I would imagine that they'd stay dry if they were locked shut. They've not been trouble free. I added a .120" thick plate to where the hinge attaches to the box. The plastic pivot bushing can be an issue. I have a piece of treated 2x6 residing under the front of the box to help the latch support the load.

Undercover makes them and the weak point is where the metal hinge attaches to the plastic box. Any weight will split the box at that point. I had one back around 2006 or so with just a pair of jumper cables in it that split. It was under a hard tonneau cover so it wasn't from uv exposure. Great idea but the build won't last. I'm surprised someone else hasn't developed a more robust solution.

Counter to all the whining, I've had them on my trucks since 2018, re-used one on 2 successive trucks. Filled with (heavy-ish) self retracting straps, braided cables and locks. Never had one break or leak.

I have bought the Ford ones, or the exact same ones on Amazon as well, identical. Hinges and stops are smooth and adjustable, I really have nothing bad to say about them.

EXCEPT - The first production run of 2018 (? iirc) were made thinner, and they suck. Shouldn't be any of those around anymore.
