10 speed transmission

As you know, the 10 speed was a joint Ford/GM project that ended abruptly when engineering disagreed. GM's software aggravated the problems; Ford's software helped a little, but the 10 speeds have issues that are ultimately by a pulse valve- what does this valve really do- when asked, Ford nor GM engineers will explain. What is known is this is what causes most of the drivability issues and trans failures. GM is being sued over this right now, Ford IMHO, will not be far off.
The solution is to replace the valve body with a modified unit that replaces ALL of the plastic valve actuators and deletes the pulse valve completely.

Irony abound that the 6R transmission Ford used and 6L family GM ran were all more or less based on the ZF 6HP and overall became very trusted, but then Ford and GM thought they can do better by not copying the 8HP which while not perfect(some issues with long term sensors being expensive to fix when they go down) arguably would have been better basis for when Ford and GM wanted to go beyond 6 forward gears, as the implementations in FCA/Stellantis vehicles have shown.

Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of gripe against ZF mostly regarding their repairability and parts availability when something does go wrong, and they had their share of issues with their 9 speeds. But in the contemporary context, the 8HP/Powerline family is the least bad option by a long shot. Heck, Ford STILL supplies the 6R140 behind the PSD and 7.3 gas v8 to their chassis cab division and outside customers like Bluebird buses.
