What are the largest/widest tires I can run on my 1997 f350 dually without needing spacers on the rear I’m preferably looking for an aggressive all terrain I’m currently running 235/85/16. Thanks for the answers!!
I have 245/75R16 here (about 1" shorter), piles of choices available in that size. No rubbing I have seen. 265/75R16 (same height of your 235s) are pretty common size too thanks to GM, but they will almost certainly rub each other.
Swear I read the cab and chassis trucks have a slightly different offset that would gain you a hair more clearance. If that is true I would like to snipe a pair for sure.
It is true. You need to be very careful running anything over the oem 215 tires on the dually pickups because they are all 2wd trucks that came with close offset budd wheels. Most people who put 235's on, do not pay attention to where the tires will rub between the wheels; when you load the truck, the tires sidewalls will buldge outward, way down towards the bottom. If they touch, they heat up and blow out, taking your fiberglass dually fender with them.
Today, all you can buy now from the aftermarket, are the larger spaced budds that came on the 4wd cab and chassis trucks, that came with 235's from the factory. I would never run 235's on 2wd budd rims. I've seen pics posted here when it's done, and it's very obviously much too close.
I would be very cautious about spacers. You don't want to lose your hub centric, nor do you want to move the wheel outward on the bearing either. Buy a set of correct rims or stick with the 215's.
For my dually conversion, I went the other way, because I wanted shorter tires to bring the truck down, so I went with the close 2wd offsets and a size down from 215s.........and w/ the dump bed, the truck is still too high, so.
