The modem is black. I started to change the little black module and the connector. question the modem that holds the black modem is corroded can that unit that holds the modem be cleaned good enough to put back on'.how do i get the black modem out of the holder? it looks like there are two bolts holding it on there deep inside. how do they come out?
there was a white cream in a small bag, what is that for.

It takes either a special TFI module socket or you can grind down a 7/32 socket to fit in the hole
A (5.5mm) socket is the actual size, we all ground down 7/32 sockets
The white paste is heat sink grease, you can just use the clear silicone dielectric grease and put that on the backside of the module like the white stuff was
Do not use the clear silicone dielectric grease that comes with the module, get the heat sink paste, or yours will die on you in the middle of nowhere.
that tool is a Lisle ignition tool 64650.
FORD sends clear silicone dielectric grease with their modules, and sells the stuff over the counter for you to use as a technician
Use what you want, but I've been using the clear silicone dielectric grease since 1985 with no trouble whatsoever
1981 Escort (world car) was the first car with a TFI module on it
Their stators failed quite regularly, after the stator replacement, we put all their TFI modules back on with the clear grease too, it came with the stators in the box
Thank all for the advise ,it really helped a lot.. The old one came off easy and was freally dirty . I will clean it up real good and use the clear silicone dielectric grease that was used since 1985
how about t how are they connected to connector all the wires are black, I know, lol . Do i just clip the wires and solder them or use the little red joiners from walmart. help me get this thing put in there as i still dont have a blinking pip wire , I hope this will fix it.

No not burnt , Just little grungy from original stuff they put on there. I put on new coil, now a new ignition control modem and new connector, hopefully it will fix the no blinking. If not the part in the distributor may be next'

Modem? We’re assuming you are referring to the ignition control module (ICM)? What is the reason you are changing the ICM ie what problem are you having and what vehicle are you working on? The modem that holds the modem? Do you have an ICM mounted on the fender in the heat sink?

its mouted on the fender, just changing the black icm. and the conecter. had to take off the whole thing the holder . I could not tell the size of the bolts in side those little holes.
I have no blink on the pip wire from the coil
