Need to replace '88 F-250 tilt steering column

I'm new to TFE, and really enjoy reading threads of issues I've had or have with my '88, F-250, 4x4, XLT Lariat, 460 auto I ordered new with most every option except power windows. I knew I'd be really pissed in hot weather when the motors or switches failed, even though I have AC. With 200K+ miles, I've never had a problem getting fresh air by winding down my driver's window, or using the wind wing (an unfortunate delete from new vehicles, kinda like curb finders).

My tilt function is history, grabbed the steering wheel too many times to get in the truck. I McGyvered two cedar shim shingles with 4" hose clamps to keep it straight, but it's got to be fixed. RSC Steering Column Service has a 100% satisfaction rating on Ebay. I've never used Ebay, and just registered on the site yesterday to locate a rebuilt column. New or NOS doesn't appear to be available for 1988, and I don't want something out of a junk yard truck.

I've read all the site guidelines, and this is not an effort to advertise for this re-builder. I'd just like to ask other Ford truck owners if they had done business with RSC, and if the excellent rating of this seller on Ebay is justified. The complete rebuild includes new upper and lower bearings, turn signal switch (mine is barely functional), ignition actuator rod, etc.. It's $755.00 after core return, not cheap, but there's a lot going on inside that column, too many things that I could easily screw up in a piecemeal repair attempt. Any feedback from FTE members would be much appreciated.

Welcome to FTE.
Why not try to rebuild yours?
The issue is the three screws that holds the lower column to the upper.
Over years of using the steering wheel to pull you into the truck, they loosen then break.
I have replaced them three times so far on my 88 over the past 500,000 miles

Hey @tjc transport, I had a whole message that I lost when looking for a pic of my 59 F-100 panel truck. Bought it when I was 16 right after getting my DL, kept it for 30 years, and regret every day letting it go. I really don't want to pull apart my steering column. I know how to wrench, I was a general contractor for 45 years with a Dad who taught auto and machine shop in CA high school, but at 76, with the small parts and pieces in this steering column, my instincts tell me to leave it to a professional. I have a seasoned and totally straight repair guy that is fine with doing the R&R, I was just looking to see if anyone had experience with this rebuilder. Thanks man for your interest.

to be honest, it may be cheaper to find a tight column in a salvage yard.
i understand your reluctance to do the repair yourself, as i am also "older than dinosaur poop" as my grand daughter says.
plus with my health issues, getting into position to actually get the past out to do the repair and then back in are not fun anymore either.
there are a few listed in CA on www.car-part.com between priced between $200 and $450, with a few more listed "call for price"
