We have a 1989 E250, 351/C6. I bought it last summer (having previously owned a '76 E350 and then later a '88 E150 Club Wagon). Having recurring problems with the Rube Goldberg inspired two stage fuel delivery system, I am wondering if anyone on here has perhaps upgraded the fuel system to the newer high pressure single pump system used on the '92 & up OBS F-Series trucks. As a possible 4WD conversion may take place in the future, this would also get rid of the current high pressure pump which would obstruct the front driveshaft with the conversion. Alternatively, might anyone here know of an aftermarket alternative to the silly and problem prone valve/reservoir that is supposed to provide for proper selection of source tank?
Newer fuel tanks with high pressure pumps, remove the dual tank crossover valve / reservoir
I'd get the plastic fuel lines from a 90 or newer at the junkyard and modify those to accommodate your modified midship tank
Quite a few people on here have done that conversion
I'd check the sending unit ohms of both pumps, and maybe use your sender if they do not match up, (they should) you just check anyway
Thank you for the response. Yes, my plan for the upgrade was to use the lines from my parts 95 F150 Supercab shortbed (139" wb) so line lengths should be close. I may need to run new power lines for the in tank pumps since their current draw is higher than the old style low pressure ones. The only other concern is that the access holes in the older tanks may not allow for placement of the bigger pumps in the tanks.
