whats the tips on replacing. My trucks battery went flat during a snow storm. So i went to start it all i heard we a tick. So i replaced that today with a brand new battery that has 13.8v+. And it went tick. My starter had its first episode back in the summer. I ordered a new one PM XS Torque. Never installed it because my starter then never acted up. Until this week when I went to move it to make some room in my driveway.
Buy a new starter, don't waste your money on a rebuilt starter.
The previous owner cut the inner fender that I assume he did to gain access to the top bolt on the starter.
You just take the bolt out that the arrow is pointing at and it opens up like a little door.
I don't know if I would have done that but he certainly didn't mind and it does make changing the stater easier.
Clean all of your battery connections very thoroughly before you condemn your starter. Some trucks are worse than others about corroding battery cables. It really doesn’t take much to keep one from starting.

+1 on this ^^^^^^
It's imperative that ALL of the connections to the battery, solenoid, engine block, and starter are clean and tight.
also check connections on the solenoid. You can jump directly from the battery to the starter with booster cables. If it cranks, it's a wiring problem NOT a starter problem. Lots of starters get replaced only to not rectify the problem. Make sure to diagnose what part is actually broken

Wiring is good.
‘’truck doesn’t turn over. All that happens is the tick of the pinion hitting the ring gear because the starter doesn’t have enough gut anymore to shoot out the pinion and spin its 50 years old and has never been replaced. And prior to it just ticking making one solid tick it was turning over at maybe 50rpms that was on Sunday and on Tuesday it began to just make one solid click. While being attached to another pickup to get jump started trying to get the old battery to have enough juice. But turns out 11 volts ain’t enough. But now with my new battery I was able to diagnose better.
So you got a Powermaster high torque mini starter correct? PM XS Torque....There are some wiring differences, so not exactily plug and play with the OEM wiring. There a few threads that cover this.
