Looking at a beautiful 2000 XLT X. Price is right ($20K), mileage is right (51) and I'm ready to pull the trigger. Only worry I have is it's the 5.4L V8. I've searched for comments on the 5.4 in the X but don't see any useful info.
Should I keep looking for a V10? PSD's are a bit pricey up here and I've never owned a diesel so that is plan C.

The only useful info for the 5.4 is not to buy it. Way underpowered for the X. You have a 5.8 in what you are driving now, correct? Why go up in size and down in power?
Unless all you do is perform "soccer-mom" duties, stay away from the gas V8. It's just too inadequate for the X. I had a 5.8 in an '87 F350 crew-cab ... and that was the truck's ONLY shortcoming ... and it weighed 2,000 pounds LESS than the X.
Thanks for the input. Even my stock 5.8 needed a little help for my Bronco....Didn't think a K&N filter, chip and exhaust would be much help for the X. I think it's torque that's needed more the HP.
Hopefully you'll see another line to my signature soon alongside my Big Bronc.
