Get a good mechanical gauge. Run the thinnest oil that substains decent pressure. Too thick of oil can starve cam bearings of oil when the engine is cold. Also one note on HV and Std. oil pumps. Race engines run looser tolerances so they need more oil pumped thru the system. IF you dont have loose enough tolerances the oil will just be relieved thru the pressure release. Also I have heard of twisting the oil pump shafts off using HV pumps with a tight engine.
Ok up date for all you guys who have helped with info.
The new pump is in and the same crap is happening the engine is scrap! Anyone know an In exspensive place to get a rebuild in Michigan?? Any info would be great!!
Nope now its a steady less than 5LBS cold hot rving driving dosnt seem to change. I know the gauge works because it was before I changed the pump. I also talk to a Friends Brother who works at a ford dealer and he said oil pressure wont drop on a 302 unless there is something else wrong. He thinks the oil gally plug is blown, and was to begin with. the new pump is just pushing more oil threw it and not presuring the eng. Also it knocks now
I have not run it more than a few min though, but the damage is probly already done.
Are you sure the distributor is engaged to the oil pump drive shaft? Your buddy may be right, one of the gallery plugs at the front of the engine behind the timing cover might have blown out, but I find it hard to believe that a HV oil pump wouldn't raise the pressure atleast a little bit. Did you put a gasket between the pick up tube and the oil pump and the oil pump and block?
