The seller should've never used the word restored in their ad. It may have been somewhat restored in the 90's as it says but's that's 30 years ago and it shows. The "restoration" is obviously questionable just from the paint that's where it shouldn't be. I went to it again and the ad shows it sold; it'd be interesting to know it actually went for.
It says or best offer. He probably offered and accepted 500 dollars knowing he wasn't getting 35K and paid a small fee and listed it as sold!
What's funny is look at other vehicles they've got listed and they say restored too and their "restoration" is the same as this truck. Their feedback isn't that good either, real honest seller.
Whoa! Tough crowd!
I've always said "undersell and overdeliver" - on just about everything. Had this guy said F100 in good condition, most would be saying stuff like "good condition? More like GREAT CONDITION or wow that thing looks mint" or whatever. But the instant that you mention "restored" we all tend to go into "pick-it-apart" mode - lol - self included. I think that truck looks amazing! And yes, the underside pics are not flattering - lol. But again, if he'd undersold it rather than using the term "restored" I think the comments would be a lot warmer and less critical - lol.
And I agree that his appraisal is pretty high on that truck, - certainly above my pay grade, but just like anything else in this world, every item being sold is worth EXACTLY what someone is willing to pay for it - nothing more and nothing less. Who knows? Somebody may come along with enough money that having that truck means more to him than that much money so... it could happen. I've seen stranger things go for a lot more than I thought they were worth so yeah.
Just sayin..

You have to admit though, that one is oversold and overpriced and everything that everybody said was true! And then it is marked as sold and shows back up for sale at 3 grand less a couple of weeks later. To me that is maybe 20K sitting there.

I am not going to say or try to predict what this truck is worth, as @FlintMich wrote, it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. However, how many original Rangers still exist? I know @TA455HO has what is probably the closest official list that exists, and so I ask, how many F100's are on that list for '66?
Also, I like to watch Bring a Trailer, and see what is going across the auction block, (actually it is more about seeing cars I never new existed, as much as it is seeing what cars I have had or my truck is worth) and over the last 10 years, of the 185, 1964-1966 F series trucks auctioned, not one was a Ranger or XL. In fact, I only remember one that had the seats, but was more a Tribute to the option, rather than an original. The prices are all over the place, but there are many in the 30K plus range that or somewhat original and have had long ownership like the one here.
Truth is, the seller would probably be better off putting it on BaT than trying to sell it privately, but then again, that is up to them. Personally, I hope he gets what he wants, as it then suggests that those of us who have original Rangers, can an least hope to get a little more than average if we too are forced to sell. I know my wife would prefer if I sold mine....little does she know or understand, that outside of being married to her...driving my old truck is my happy place...
Thanks for sharing, I know I read it somewhere, but don't remember when or where, but factor in how many F100's were built and how many we see that are not Rangers, and it makes all the original Rangers a bit rare and special. Not as rare as the XL's, but still rare.

@TA455HO would this muffler be worth anything to you or anyone...? Came off my 66 F250, appears to be og Ford muffler... not sure if it's restorable or able to be cleaned up for such purpose as period correct.
I've scored a couple of NOS mufflers but the numbers on them don't really form a readable date as far as I can tell. Not like that one of yours. The C5TA-5230-AG ID number - that's not a part number in this case - is for a 240/300 and backward compatible with the 223/262/292 but not specked for a 352. What did your truck have for an engine? Looks like it says 5 11 66 for the date.
It has the original 352/NP435 in it, sold it to neighbor, he took the muffler off and put on something else, I had told him never to get rid of anything he took off so he brought it up to me, then I bought it back from him as he found a 1976/77 HB he wanted... I'll have to see if it has the part # on it somewhere.
Would work well for my June 1966 built Ranger, too. Just starting to get serious about putting it back together now. I like good natural patina, but the old original owner of my truck started to sand it down on the hood, fenders and top of the cab and some on the doors - a few days before this picture was taken... hahaha
Good old Max Patrick. So, it doesn't really count as natural patina. Or maybe it would have since he did it a minute or two ago...you can see he never got too much into the bed sides of the truck. So, I made the choice to paint it.
