Carb recommendations

Tried to dig through the posts but just wanted to see what you guys recommend. 68 f100 with a 360, performer intake, and headers. Not looking for anything crazy just consistent drivability. Currently have an Edelbrock 1406 (600cfm) on it. Thoughts?

This truck and working on them was brand new to me 2 years ago. I took it by a shop for some electrical issues I couldn’t sort out on my own. The guy said the mixtures needles felt like they were buried and it wasn’t an issue but fine tuning it would be difficult. I’ve put a whole new wiring harness since then and sorted out a lot of other things and the carb was just next on my list. I agree it might not need to be replaced but just wanted to see.

You could go with a 1403 (500 CFM), since you are running this on a 360. That is a better size than the 1406 for your application. The second thought is just rebuild the 1406.

I prefer a Holly over the Edelbrock carbs, but they work just a little different to tune. Get you a vac gauge and see if you can get the carb adj right, a tach would be useful too. Verify the timing and advanced is correct. That will tell you if the mixture screws are messed up. You could always switch over to EFI. Then you would not have to worry about adj/tuning the carb.

Is there much point in putting a 4-barrel inntake and carb on a 360? Other than cool-factor :-) I'm running the original 5-million pound cast iron 2-barrel intake with a reproduction std carburetor, and it's super reliable and consistent... Would I see enough increase in performance for it to be worth changing? Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread ;-)

The OP does have a an after market intake and headers. He will see a little improvement based on this, and if he stays out of the secondaries maybe a slight increase in MPGs.
