I have a 1997 F-150 XLT with 4.6 L engine and regular cab. Been shopping for a muffler and tailpipe and cannot seem to find anything that looks like what is on the truck.
The rusted out muffler on the truck has a formed metal rod welded onto the top at the rear which inserts into two rubber hangars. The tailpipe exits behind the rear tire.
All the replacement parts I am finding have a muffler without the hanger rod. The tailpipe that goes with it has the hangar rod near the muffler end and the tailpipe description
says it exits in front of the rear tire, not behind.
Originally, early 10G F150s had the exhaust exit in front of the wheel. I guess that got changed for cosmetic reasons as far as getting the wheel all
dirtied up.
