We recently moved and had to change companies for our electric service, the one we had does not have lines in our area. The other company has a service charge to help cover the cost of providing electric service regardless of kilowatt hours used I think this is total BS to have to pay $21.95/month for their services and not have a choice in the matter. We also have high energy using appliances (water heater and possibly the A/C)on an off-peak meter which reduces the cost by half the current rate. Now I may drop this feature as it saved us a whopping $1.95 last month because this also has a $2.50 off-peak monthly service charge!! What's the current rate for electric power in your area? It's about $.08/kwh here and $.04/kwh for off-peak use.
That happened to me last winter, moving from an apartment in Bismark to a house 30 miles east. It is something that really is annoying, but what can you do.. Worse in my situation was the local telephone company had a monopoly in the new region.. I did not have to suffer that one, though. I just did not have a land line.
You think that's bad I found a charge on my phone bill. Called PUC to find out what it was, to pay for the poles and lines. HELLO isn't that supposed to come out of the regular monthly ripoff? Can Ford charge you for a pickup and a second charge for the materials to build it?
