I see from the member map there are a few people in the Eugene area. Is there anyone out here, or in the Veneta area that wants to do some 4 wheeling in a small group? Is there a 4x4 club that's decent in this area?
Not sure about Eugene / Veneta. There is a Willamette Valley Club that covers a lot of Territory but I’m fairly new to this so not really sure how big a foot print they have. There is also the Central Oregon SXS club that I’m a member of. Haven’t been real active because of other things going on.
There is a 4X4 club in the Valley. I was just reading someplace about a jeep excursion. Facebook is a good place to search for these groups.
right on, thanks for the input and suggestions. I'm a volunteer for the Off Road Recovery Portal, but really wanted to get more involved in the 4x4 scene out this way. I love off roading, but am not nearly as active as I was 30 years ago. I suppose that's understandable though, since I'm missing my left leg from a bike wreck. That's why I have a good winch and recovery equipment with me always, not to mention a medical/trauma kit and fire suppression kit. I'm not walking out of anywhere unless I really really have to...

My wife and I spent a night on the mountain one time. Plenty of water (300 gallons in the back of the pickup), no food and only Jackets. Plenty of military, police & search & Rescue experience training but, I too have no intention of doing that again. I was helping my sister set up 200 miles of courses for an Equestrian Endurance ride. We’d already ridden the courses twice marking trails, turns and water barrels.
So, we were taking the 4x4 with the water bowser in the back out to and filling the remote water tanks. We were on our on our last trip. Pickup died. It was if an EMP had gone off and slabs anything electrical. Stayed with the truck waiting. The next morning my sister and another fellow showed up. Didn’t notice we weren’t back until 0400 in the morning. They got to us at 0630.
Bad plates shorted out in the battery. 2nd time that happened to me with a Die Hard Battery leaving me in the sticks. 1rst time was an 11 Mile hike out with an 11 & 12 year old and our muzzleloaders.

That's a nightmare situation. I really wanted to put a second battery in my truck, but there isn't a lick of room for one under the hood!
Did you switch battery brands after that?
Oh yeah, I changed brands and so did everyone in the family that was using them. Haven't gone close to a die hard battery since 1995 or 1996. We started using Les Schwab Batteries. Starting around 2005, I started using Ford Motorcraft Batteries. That was when my 87 F250 4x4 460 departed and was replaced with the 1996 F250 4x4 PSD XLT Supercab.
