I just bought a 95 F-150 XLT Extended cab 4x4. We took it for its maiden voyage this past weekend, about 330 miles and I used over 25 gallons of gas! The truck has the 5.0 engine and just rolled 100k. I knew it should get around 15-16 on the highway, but it was barely getting 13. I gave the engine a closer look and noticed that the plug wires were date coded 1995. I pulled the #8 plug and found the electrode was rounded and measured a .063 gap!
So anyway, I have replaced plugs(Autolites), wires(9mm Ford Racing wires I had laying around), cap, rotor and o2 sensor(Bosch) and can tell a difference in performance.
I can't believe the truck ran as good as it did.
I guess Built Ford Tough really means something.
