Just delete it altogether and use compression fittings to extend the pick up down and add an external filter. Its easy enough and stops you from having to drop the tank.
I did it on my tank and added a j bend and got it to sit on the floor of the tank.

I've replaced mine before, probably 10 years or so ago. Don't remember it being in pieces like this one was.

There used to be a fuel thing called the "Hutch" mod.
Which was about re-doing the pickup system.

The new tank came in yesterday and planning to install it today.
I was planning to disconnect the fuel line at the pump and blow air back thru the line in case there might be other small pieces back up in the line.
My air compressor is capable of producing 150psi, think I should dial that down or would it be safe using that much pressure on the lines and tank switching valve?

Well, it took a good while to get the fuel to the injectors, but it's finally running. Time to put my tools back on it and return this borrowed truck.

Particularly Dorman Parts, they swell in diesel and come apart. Buy an OEM shower head.
I have the Dorman parts on a bench as a reminder that I had to replace them after a few months because they failed. Real pain to do the job twice.
Happy to send the old Dorman showerhead to you if you are a glutton for punishment.
