Surging on Startup when cold
I started having this problem last year when the temperature drops below freezing. When I start the truck, it will surge, the rpms go up and down and this will continue for about 7 or 10 miles on the way to work.. A real pain.. It finally stops when the truck warms up throughly. When Spring came last year, the problem went away. I've talked to my Ford dealer and they say Ford engineering is working on the problem..
Well it's winter again and it's back and driving me nuts.. Any info on what this problem can be would be greatly appreciated.

emtabaum, my truck does the same thing. Actually, mine only does it when it is real cold (below 20F where I live), and ususally stops within a few seconds after the truck starts. I would be interested in finding a solution to this problem if there is one. I took the liberty of e-mailing my VIN to you also. Can ya help a brotha out????

might take a look at your owners manual... for some reason i remember reading something about it being normal to surge when you first start up, but only while it idleing... it didnt mention while you were driving it.
