Hello, I’m looking at a 1995 4x4 F250 with a 460 and a 5 speed manual. The body and frame is in really nice shape but the engine is blown. I’m thinking about maybe swapping to a different engine since the 460s I’m seeing for sale seem to be pretty expensive. I think it would be really cool to swap to the 4.9l inline six, but I’m having trouble finding on the internet whether or not the inline six is compatible with a 4x4 5 speed manual transmission. Would the 7.3l diesel be too expensive to swap to? What are good engine options for that year of f250? Can the 4.9l handle any towing or regular 3/4 ton truck things? Maybe the best option is just to stick with a 460. I’d be grateful to hear some opinions. Thanks
What is the extent of “blown”? What is your budget for this? The engine, not vehicle purchase.
460 has a different bolt pattern so it won’t be straight swap to 4.9.
It has a hole in the block. I would really like to spend less than $3000 on the whole engine and maybe transmission swap. If I have to spend more to get a considerably better deal than I will.
Running 7.5's are out there cheap from wrecked trucks
I'd spend the dough on a reman engine, it's one of the best trucks made IMO
No on the 4.9, hell no on the 7.3
I thought you wanted affordable? that means stick with a 460

Sounds good. Thanks for all the input guys, I’ll go with another 460. What are some good remanufacturers to go through? I’ve heard good things about Jasper, but do they only deliver to licensed installers?
