need help with timing sensor

I changed my timingbelt today on my 91 ranger 2.3l 4 cyl. and some how i broke the magnet off from the middle of the sensor. Just curious what the sensor's purpose is, how it can be removed and do auto parts stores have them??

Please help!

Perhaps the Sticky Technical Information will help. Scroll down to the section on the 2.3 Liter Timing Belt. I have no idea myself, but it sounds important to me.
