Broken "measuring stick"

Heard a rattling-clacking-clicking noise when I started home this evening, after about a mile the PS started to make a noise as if the fluid was low. I stopped to check the fluid level and the stick was broken off right at the o in "hot". Topped off the fluid just in case. When I started again the whine was still there but the first noise was gone. Hadn't checked the PS fluid it in a couple of weeks, don't know the noises were related.

Is there a simple way to get the broken piece out? I've not even looked yet, but by the book the reservoir and pump seem to be separate? Would it be in the reservoir where I can drain it and shake or fish it out? Considering my shifts the next couple of days, will it wait or can it go somewhere damaging?

Well, if the "dip stick" gets into the pump proper it can certainly cause damage to the pump - even if the dipstick IS plastic.

You *may* be able to take the pump off and after inverting it shake the missing piece out . . . it's a coin toss as to whether it will actually work.

Sorry for your problem - I hate when things like that happen to me. It is so . . . un necessary, it just makes me crazy!
