Fuel tank

My truck has the fuel tank behind the seat, and I’m wondering if it would be worth doing a relocation swap to between the frame. Is it a big safety concern to have it behind the seat or is it worth swapping over even though everything works fine now

My 70 f250 had the main tank behind the seat and the auxiliary tank underneath the truck. Since I had two tanks, I deleted the in-cab tank. They were both full of crap so I only replaced the aux. My 72 f250 was in-cab only, I left it as is. The in-cab doesnt bother me that much. There is swap threads on the forum with Mustang tanks and Suburban tanks that I have seen. It is all about your preference.

I have a zero safety concern for my in-cab tank.
A bigger concern is no 3-points seatbelt and the non telescoping steering column.

I am doing the Suburban Tank swap for two reasons;
1) More room in the cab.
2) It's a 35 gallon tank.

The fact that there isn't a tank of fuel behind my seat is also a relief. I drove a 1971 F100 for years with the in cab tank, and you could smell it at times.

Bur it is a personal choice as to which way you go.

Don’t see how getting the tank out of the cab adds more room unless you’re talking about storage space behind the seat. The seat back angle goes right to the back wall when fully pushed back.
You definitely want your connection hose to the tank to be recent and fully tightened.

I left mine behind the seat, I can smell gas occasionally but that’s only because the black tube I ordered for the filler tube wasn’t fuel rated apparently.

it’s whatever you prefer but I wouldn’t switch it because of a safety issue.

I put a 2000 ford superduty seat in mine and because it has an enclosed backrest, the seat doesn’t go back as far as it would if it was open all the way.

if I was to remove it I would have more room to slide it back but I don’t need room bad enough to do so.

you think radiator tube would be fuel rated? It’s all I had on hand at the time.

I’m not sure but if it doesn’t start to break down I think it would be fine.

that’s actually what I was thinking about using as a replacement.

NO. Radiator hose is not fuel rated. Get the proper fill hose so you want smell the gas in the cab.

I stand corrected.

A quick Google search states what Blue said and states that it will break down and isn’t designed to be used with petroleum products.

I believe you can get the correct hose for the fuel tank hose.
