Looking for help finding some 52 long arm door mirrors...preferably the black ones that fit over the hinge.
They're no longer made. I've checked every vintage retailer, Chuck's trucks, the parts section of this site, fleabay, you name it.
I tried the curved arm and the straight arm repops that are chromed...terrible. Both require you to grind the crap out of the hinge and they're still too small and too close to the door.
I'd really prefer NOT to drill any additional holes in the doors, but if I find a good option, I'm ok with it. Heaven knows I've figured out bodywork at this point...
Any thoughts out there? Anybody got any buried in 30 years of dust in their barns?
Not that I have any great answers, this is information I have compiled over the years. Here is a diagram showing the adjustable and non-adjustable length mirrors:
The mirror heads, 21CS-17718-B (later 1C-17723-A) would be the stock part used on Ford trucks 44-52. These are also listed under ****** part number WO-A-11850 and WO-A-2934. I think some vendors are using United Pacific C476903B and C477202 Mirrors against these original part numbers. Dennis Carpenter lists them under D1C-17723.
Mirror Heads:
OEM: FORD 21CS-17718-B (later 1C-17723-A), ****** Jeep WO-A-11850 & WO-A-2934
Current Facsimiles: United Pacific C476903B and C477202, Dennis Carpenter D1C-17723
Arms:
United Pacific 60021 or 60022 is a reasonable facsimile.
Chucks inventory is ever changing. What isn't there today may be there tomorrow.
That 7k is not in USD... I think the equivalent is just under $400 USD, which still may not be a bargain, but when there is no supply and a bit of demand, it is reality. And they take PayPal, which can provide desired purchase protection.
I was about to send them a message when I read their FAQ. They do not ship outside Mexico, so it wouldn't matter anyway.
Very sketchy anyway...
Sketchy indeed except they accept PayPal which would make a scam difficult. Same thing if you use your credit card. If they don't deliver, you don't pay. It's unfortunate that they don't ship to the U.S.. Considering the complexity of trying to manufacture them $400 including shipping would be reasonable.
Seeing posts like this makes me realize that we really are at the end of an era. I can't believe that Chuck doesn't have a whole bunch of these. When I got my truck they were available from multiple vendors.
I don't know much about 48-52 mirrors and arms but I see vintage Jeep repopped mirrors and arms on eBay that look a lot like what you are looking for .

Abe, as shared above, Ford and ****** used the same mirror heads. The arms are similar, but not directly interchangeable due to the door hinge mount differences. But they were noted as possible pieces to adapt. Also note that the left and right hinge mounts are mirrors of each other and not the same; the right/passenger side are much much rarer than the left side.

you know what… you can’t make make them for $400. That’s actually a pretty decent price! I could think of worse ways to spend money.

I know we are , it’s kinda sad. Yeah multiple vendors , but all selling the same Dennis Carpenter manufactured item! Once he stoped making them, that was it!
Interestingly Chuck was instrumental in developing and designing a lot of these original products for reproduction with Dennis like the mirrors among others while he was still alive. Sadly the company is under new leadership and seems to have other priorities.
If somebody would make 53-56 mirrors, including the 6" x 6' mirror heads there would be guys willing to pay $400 for them. Several guys have thought about making their own. Scott Tombaugh, a member to our forum (55 round 2??) from NW PA has been working on them. His hold up is the big round concave bright metal washer and the big shiny bolt with the long shoulder. He can not find amyone to machine them. I went to Fastenal to see if they had something close.
Even with out the mirror heads guys would buy the arms and hardware.
Exploded 53-56 stock mirror diagram
used bolt and washer and hardware clamps around the arm. The black clamps would be easy to fabricate...
a 53 NOS Mirror, arm and attaching hardware
57 and later mirrors. They are smaller than the 53-56 mirrors but who would know if that's all you can get.

Attached below is a PDF of the big washer and bolt someone drew up, maybe it was Scott. Click on the link to see it .
I have in-laws that live in Mexico so I took a look to see where the company is located. Mexico City, so pretty far away from where they live in Sonora. The way things go down there I personally wouldn't risk it for that kind of money. I can ask them anyway just out of curiosity if they would be confidant they would get the product if they were to order it.

That makes sense. I was trying to find my receipt but I must have purchased them through my local vintage parts dealer who sell lots of Dennis Carpenter. With new scanning and metal printing tech someone with the know how could probably whip up the critical parts fairly easily. The hinge mount, the cupped washers and the longer hinge pins. My nephew is getting quite adept at 3D but not yet into metal. I'm wondering if Dennis might consider a limited run if they can get double what they were selling them for back when.
