Heated seat problem HELP!!!

I have a 99Expo, the driver heated seat stopped working, passenger works fine. Checked the switch, it has power and lights up when pressed all wires seem to be connected also. Today I switched the black Bosch boxes under seat, still no heat. What do I do next? Thanks!

Could be the heating grid, try that. I had mine replace only 2 years old.

You might want to check the power fuse. Mine has one fuse (under the dash) for the control circuit, and another (under the hood) for the power. But, it does sound like you have a break in or to the grid. I think the driver and passenger sides are not fused separately.

You might get a better response in the electrical forum; some of the guys there are really good.

How hard is the element to repair, or what does a new one cost and how do you change it out?

I don't think the grid is repairable, but you'd have to examine it. It is placed between the upholstery and the seat foam. You would probably need to remove the seat and strip off the leather or cloth which is usually held on with clips and hog rings.

Is both the bottom and back dead? Seems unlikely that both grids would go at the same time.

My neighbour has a 99 and he said he was able to change out the grid in the driveway. It was a bit of work, but he's no mechanic either.

Had the driver's side heating grid replaced twice in four years on my 2000 EB. Thank God I bought a 5 yr/100K ESP Warranty. It wasn't a fuse and the dealer didn't replace the seat cover. Just the grid.
