My wife has a 61 Ranchero with a 170 and 3 on the tree. I've been looking for a 200 with a C-4 auto to put into it. I came across a chance to purchase a 250 with a C-5 auto. Has anyone done a 250/C-5 conversion that could offer up advice/tips? Is this a viable combo for the '61? Any problems I'm liable to run into? This opportunity probably won't last long, but I don't want to jump right in if it's not going to work.
Help please!
I don't have much know how on the staight 6 but I have seen one in a 65 falcon which would be really close in comparison. here is a site that may help you. http://fordsix.com/
the C5 would be good. it is built to handle the more powerful SB engines. good luck
This is a just curious question. I have seen a few of the "Falcon" body Rancheros advertised with V-6's. Anyone done this or checked out a V-6 conversion? I'm not considering this but it has my curiosity up.
Sam if you look at for sale ads, you will see a lot of things that don't stack up. You may see mid-late 60s trucks called F150s, I6s called v6s. Even though they have been around longer, v6s have come on in the last 10 years.
Hope I didn't make the water muddier, just watch carefully of things claimed to be that are not.
Look at this one. I thought it may be somewhat interesting. A 4.0 in a Ranchero should prove to be pretty dependable with the EFI and lighter weight than the 5.0 or even a 289. I may be off but I am thinking the balance of the truck with the V-6 may somewhat be better? This auction ended but it was pretty neat, it looks like a 2.8 with the weber style carb.
Is this concept too unconventional or is it another *******ized idea of a drunken stupor? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6220&item=24274592 85#mainImage
