sorry everyone for posting ANOTHER comp problem im having.
i need help changing my startup programs.
i have a gateway, with windows millenium version.
when i startup my computer, all sorts of crap starts up that i dont want to, and it totally makes my computer act like a turd.
i dont know how to select which programs that i want or dont want to start up. ive tried, but when i select "add/remove" from a thing-a-ma-bob that says start up it says "do you want to move this item to the recycle bin"
well, doesnt that mean it scraps the program ?
can anyone tell me what to do? as mentioned in the other post my 12.guage seems to be the only tool i know how to fix this problem with.
start, programs, startup
delete what you dont want from there.
Or, on the taskbar on the right side, right cllick whatever, go to options and uncheck "start upon startup" or whatever it says
andysutt thanks for the advice, but yet another complication...
when i go to start, programs, startup, its listed at Gstartup standing for "Gator clients applications" when i open that it doesnegive me a list of things to select from.... do you know anything about this? sorry to be such a hassle but my comp is out of warrenty
I haven't heard of Gstartup but unfortunately I have heard of Gator. They are a company that produces, for all practical purposes, SPYWARE. I'd suggest in the next few days that you visit downloads.com and get AdAware and Spybot, install and run them. Be careful to make backups before deleting the offending software, just in case.
Go to www.cnet.com and click on downloads at the top of the page. Then scroll down to "most popular" and you'll see Ad-aware. Download it and then install it. Run it and you can delete your offending spyware.
What you need to do is, from your start menu, select run. In the box, type msconfig, then go to the start tab and it gives you the option of what programs you want to start when your computer does. Uncheck the boxes of programs that you don't want. It's that simple.
