take note that the vin is also stamped into the body in several other spots that are unseen to people not knowing where they are,
swapping the cab your going to be dealing with DMV retitling the truck as a rebuilt vehicle, in NY it's like what i had to go though in NJ not fun

I hear you I have dealt with NY with a salvage title before. But I mean you should be able to replace a cab ?! I also have the option of doing it in Florida. But either way I still need my correct titled vin numbers on this new cab as I’m gonna junk the old cab.
Problem is that it’s a salvage truck so will need dmv inspection I’m wondering if it will be an issue ?
Lin my state the DMV will make your life miserable if you don’t follow the proper procedures and have you paperwork (receipts) in order showing where every part came from. Every state is different but you need to see what your state requires. A body shop that does salvage cars could probably point you in the right direction but your best information will come from the source; likely the correct division of the DMV.
I have done several special construction titles in MO. The highway patrol knows what for and where to look for descrepancy. That is their job, and they seem to luv their job. In MO, the title follows the vin. A bill of sale only would open a can of worms, the big slimy kind that bite you when you try to put em on a hook. It can be done here, but involves a judge's signature among other things.

Is there no way to just replace a cab like replacing a fender ? I’m wanting to use my vin on it, and have it inspected and using my legit repair title, I don’t know maybe I’m thinking wrong, but I see the cab as an “auto part”, like a bed, door, hood etc. I see several cabs for sale on eBay by junkyards, they all state they are required by law to retain the title of the cab. So how would someone use that cab without putting their vin on it, and if they couldn’t, why even purchase that cab ?! And wouldn’t you think they would rather see you use a solid cab than repaired one to repair that truck ?
