Hey everyone, long time reader of these forums but first time posting.
For reference I have a 1995 F250 7.3 powerstroke, 2WD with an automatic transmission.
I’m having a random idle issue that has slowly progressed to a stalling issue. I have gathered data in forscan and attached some pictures below.
Do you think this is an ICP issue or an IPR sticking issue?
The truck doesn’t do it when ICP is unplugged. For this reason, I have ordered a new one and am waiting for it to come in.
I’m just not completely sure that is the issue. Also, The IPR is looking like a $500 part these days and I also don’t want to just throw that at the truck if I’m not sure.
I’d appreciate any insight and recommendations.
Patrick
Shortly after engine start. In park, at operating temp. “Hiccup” over, recovering to normal idle Shortly after the previous hiccup. Spike in ICP again, RPMs dropping. ICP dropping back down, IPR rising, RPM still falling. Truck completely stalls.
I had a symptom last year. No codes at first then had soft code for EBP sensor. Cleaned tube and replaced sensor. Was better but idle had a little bounce. Replaced ICP, and it helped. But noticed there was still a small issue. no codes still.
previously a few years back had a hot no start and got an IPR from parts store, non-OEM. Did good up until that point. Bought the $500 OEM IPR and cleaned up the issue completely. Now I had a combination of old and a non-OEM IPR and over the course of a month replaced them all with OEM. That is the reason I asked if you bought OEM.
I too have a 95 and learned quickly the OEM is worth it. now I have a great running truck. Mileage went up too.

I did buy an OEM ICP. I’ve seen a decent amount of write ups that had knockoff parts turn out to be the problem. If an IPR is needed I’ll definitely bite the $500 bullet on that one also. It’s impossible to try and shop for a deal on one because there are too many good knockoffs out there!
I’ve seen some write ups on the EBP sensor and tube cleaning potentially fixing this issue as well. I will definitely take a look at it if the ICP doesn’t solve the problem.
I used the forscan software for windows. It’s free and not difficult to use. All you need to buy is an OBD2 to usb adapter. There is also a Bluetooth version that can connect to your phone but I’ve never used it.
The software doesn’t have an F250 but it has a E250 and reads the data just the same.
