1997 Explorer 5.0 Losing ATF with P0402 code
1997 Explorer, 5.0 auto. It has been slowly losing ATF, but has no external leaks- I can parking it every day in the same spot, it has no external leaks anywhere. Also getting a P0402 code- EGR was replaced a couple years ago. Can the two issues be related? As in can it somehow be drawing ATF through the EGR valve? Scanner won't give info past the code as to what is causing the problem with the EGR. TIA!

If there is no evidence of leaks, it is probably pushing it into the transfer case. Pull the fill plug and see if fluid comes out. It could also be entering the cooling system through a ruptured cooler but then you'd more than likely have coolant in the trans and things would be real bad. EGR has nothing to do with the transmission. The P0402 could be another bad EGR valve but I suspect the DPFE sensor or the little tubes that go to it have gone bad.
