Question E4OD Computer

I currently have a C6 in my '88 Bronco. I would like to get an overdrive transmission, and I was wanting the the E4OD. However, I was told that it requires an expensive computer?

I'm looking to find out if this is true, as well as any other parts/modifications that I would need.

I've also heard some bad things about the E4OD, does anyone reccoment the AOD instead?

If the E4OD is built right Its as tuff as you would need But not everyone knows how to beef them up. Now for the question at hand, Yes you will need a Stand alone computer to run the tranny and As Ive heard its around $1700. Just hear say so far but I would like to know for sure myself. Now Since you have a fairly new Bronco I think I would get a Trans and Wireing harness and Computer from a newer Bronco, I think it would be Much cheaper.

Baumann Engineering makes a stand-alone E4OD controller. IIRC they're about $400.

Your truck already has a computer, however when you switch to the E4OD you'll need a computer that will control that transmission in addition to the eninge. The computer in your truck controls just the engine. So if you get an E4OD out of a parts truck you'll also need to get the computer (under drivers side kick panel), the wiring harness to the trans, crossmember... the best bet is to get a complete parts truck.
