I have a 93 f150 302 automatic
So my trans is starting to slip and ive been wanting to manual swap it ice just been waiting for it to go out. I found a zf5 model no. s5-42
should this be able to bolt up to the engine or do i need to go with the md05 trans?
That depends on what engine was in front of the ZF5 transmission. The M5OD would also work. It depends on what you are doing with the truck. Do you want/need the granny low first gear? I would ask how you determined the auto trans is slipping but you are probably looking for an excuse to replace it.

There are 3 bellhousing possibilities- you want a transmission from a 351 to bolt to a 302.
The IDI (diesel) and big block bellhousings are different.
The M5OD is nicer in a truck that's used more like a car,
and the ZF5 is more useful in a truck that's often loaded heavily.
With a 302, the ZF5 ratios will be awkward at stoplights.
I swapped in an M5OD from AutoZone earlier this year and it has been great behind my 302. The ZF5 is a lot more heavy duty and it will probably last you a little longer, but it costs so much more to find a decent one that it may not be worth the extra cost. If you can find a good ZF5 for less than $500 more than an M5OD then I'd get it, if not the M5OD is just fine.
