I have an '01 Windstar that is starting to make a noise in the right front corner of the van. It sounds like the right front tire is rubbing on something but it only makes the noise when I make a left turn and it doesn't happen every time. I've checked all around the tire and wheel well area and I can't find anything that is rubbing. Is anyone else having this problem?
Don't know much about the Windstar .. Do you have front wheel drive or all wheel drive? If so, I had an front wheel drive Explorer that began making a similar noise when the CV joint began to go bad.
Another thing to check might be brake pads or the dust shield behind the rotor. LOL
That noise could be a wheel bearing. I've never serviced a wheel bearing on a front drive car before, is it part of the CV joint?
I've replaced wheel bearings on RWD cars, both front and rear, because they had all but exploded. Their early symptoms were minor chirping noises that got louder and lower in pitch, then turned into howling, until finally they made intermittent grinding noises. In the front bearing case, the old bearing was actually melted onto the spindle, and had to be ground off. It never did work right afterward.
So you might want to check your right front wheel bearings.
